Formulating Solar Power Plant Development Policy, BRIN Visits SEI

Bandung (8/6/23), The Directorate of Research, Technology and Innovation Policy Formulation of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) visited PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI) in order to prepare a Policy Study on the Development of Technology and Innovation for Solar Power Plant Systems (PLTS). The group was received by GM Engineering & Technology Development, Eric Agustian and GM Business Development, Kurniawan and Team.

This visit was motivated by the condition at the end of 2021, Indonesia's electricity generation reached 73,736 megawatts (MW) or 73.74 gigawatts (GW). Steam Power Plants (PLTU) are still the largest contributor to generation with 36.98 GW or 50% of total electricity generation. Gas and Steam Power Plants (PLTGU) contributed 12.41 GW or 17% of total generation. Then, Gas or Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTG/MG) produced 8.54 GW (11%). Furthermore, Hydroelectric Power Plants, Minihydro, or Microhydro (PLTA/M/MH) produced 6.41 GW (9%) and Diesel Power Plants (PLTD) produced 4.99 GW (7%). Finally, Solar Power Plants (PLTS) only produced 0.152 GW (0.2%) and other renewable energy power plants produced 2.07 GW (3%). It is clear that there is a very wide gap between the current realization of PLTS capacity and the target that must be achieved in the National Energy General Plan (RUEN) of 6.5 GW by 2025. Of course, to catch up on this gap, in the next three years, an additional PLTS capacity of more than 2 GW is needed each year.

Based on this, the agenda of this visit is intended to collect data, information and problems that are developing in companies engaged in Renewable Energy, especially in the development of technology and innovation of Solar Power Generation Systems (PLTS). Solar Power Generation is considered superior and competitive, even the International Energy Agency (IEA) calls solar energy the king of electricity because it records the highest annual growth compared to other renewable energies.

"We hope that this visit to SEI will be the right agenda to provide output or input for us in formulating the Policy in the Development of Solar Power Generation Technology," said the group leader, Agung Wijono in his speech. In addition to discussions and questions and answers, the group from the Directorate of Research, Technology and Innovation Policy Formulation of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) was invited to tour the Solar Farm Area located in the company's rooftop area. Specifically in this meeting agenda, the Director of PT Surya Energi Indotama for the 2012-2016 leadership period, Agus Iswanto had the opportunity to attend and accompany the entire series of events.**
