SEI Builds Rooftop Solar Power Plants at 3 International Airports to Support Green Energy in Aviation Industry

PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI) has once again demonstrated its consistency in supporting the use of green energy or New Renewable Energy (EBT) in Indonesia. As an energy company in Indonesia, SEI has built Rooftop Solar Power Plants (PLTS) at 3 PT Angkasa Pura II International Airports, namely Soekarno Hatta Cengkareng Airport, Kualanamu Medan, and Banyuwangi. The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out on November 26, 2021 with a target completion of construction at the end of 2022. This cooperation is a real step from the 3 main stakeholders in the construction of PLTS, namely PT Angkasa Pura II, SEI, and PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI).

This development is also a realization of the energy transition towards renewable energy with a target capacity of 26.3 MWp in 2025 at 20 airports of PT Angkasa Pura II. The development is in line with the Global Net Zero Carbon Emissions program in 2050 initiated by the Airport Council International (ACI) and received support at the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which took place on September 27 - October 4, 2022 in Montreal, Canada. This is the initial step for PT Angkasa Pura II to achieve the energy mix target in the aviation industry that has been planned.

The total capacity of the PLTS at the 3 airports is 2.39 MWp. Each consists of 1.5 MWp at Soekarno Hatta Airport, 862 kWp at Kualanamu Airport, and 35 kWp at Banyuwangi Airport. SEI acts as the implementing contractor in collaboration with PPI to fund the construction of PLTS at the 3 airports.

The construction of Rooftop Solar Power Plants (PLTS) at Banyuwangi Airport, Kualanamu Airport, and Soekarno Hatta Airport has now been 100% completed. In addition to direct contributions to the transition to new renewable energy, PLTS at these 3 airports are also exhibited as a portfolio that Indonesia has implemented clean energy in the Aviation sector through Rooftop PLTS installed at airports. The public can see it directly from the plane when landing or taking off.

This Rooftop PLTS is targeted to be able to produce 58.8 GWh of energy during its operation for the next 20 years. This positive impact is expected to be a guardian of hope to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050 in the aviation sector, as well as a benchmark for implementing green airport concepts.
