“From the Sun to the Scoreboard”, These 5 Football Arenas Are Powered by Solar Panels.
Bandung (19/06/23) In the era of sustainability and renewable energy, football stadiums around the world are trying to become more environmentally friendly by adopting Solar Power Plants (PLTS). By utilizing sunlight as an energy source, these stadiums provide a good example in preserving the environment while providing modern sports facilities. Here are five football stadiums that have adopted PLTS.
1. Olympiastadion, Munich, Germany: The Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany, has installed solar panels on its roof. With over 4,000 solar panels, the stadium generates enough electricity to meet its daily electricity needs and contributes excess energy to the local power grid. This helps make the Olympiastadion a more sustainable stadium and reduce carbon emissions.
2. Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa: Soccer City Stadium, which hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, is an iconic stadium located in Johannesburg, South Africa. To harness renewable energy, the stadium has installed a solar power system with around 2,000 solar panels on its roof. This system generates significant amounts of electricity, helping the stadium reduce its dependence on conventional energy sources.
3. Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia: Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, which is Indonesia's national stadium located in Jakarta, has taken steps to use renewable energy. In an effort to increase the use of renewable energy in the country, the plan is to install a solar power plant at the stadium. When the solar power plant is operational, the stadium will be able to reduce energy consumption from fossil fuels.
4. Stade de Suisse, Bern, Switzerland: The Stade de Suisse, located in Bern, Switzerland, is a famous football stadium that has installed solar power. With over 1,300 solar panels installed on its roof, the stadium is able to generate significant amounts of electricity. The energy generated is used to power the stadium and also contributes to the local electricity grid.
5. Kaohsiung National Stadium, Kaohsiung, Taiwan: Kaohsiung National Stadium, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has also adopted solar power. The stadium is equipped with solar panels installed around the stadium, generating significant renewable energy. The use of solar power helps the stadium achieve energy sustainability and reduce negative environmental impacts.
The adoption of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) by football stadiums around the world is an important step towards sustainability and carbon emission reduction. These stadiums demonstrate their commitment to utilizing renewable energy to meet their needs, while also setting a good example for other stadiums around the world to follow in their footsteps. With these steps, football stadiums become greener and more environmentally responsible sports centers.
This is in line with PT Surya Energi Indotama's Mission to improve stakeholder welfare by fulfilling the needs of New Renewable Energy and energy conservation that is competitive, innovative and efficient.

Formulating Solar Power Plant Development Policy, BRIN Visits SEI
Bandung (8/6/23), The Directorate of Research, Technology and Innovation Policy Formulation of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) visited PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI) in order to prepare a Policy Study on the Development of Technology and Innovation for Solar Power Plant Systems (PLTS). The group was received by GM Engineering & Technology Development, Eric Agustian and GM Business Development, Kurniawan and Team.
This visit was motivated by the condition at the end of 2021, Indonesia's electricity generation reached 73,736 megawatts (MW) or 73.74 gigawatts (GW). Steam Power Plants (PLTU) are still the largest contributor to generation with 36.98 GW or 50% of total electricity generation. Gas and Steam Power Plants (PLTGU) contributed 12.41 GW or 17% of total generation. Then, Gas or Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTG/MG) produced 8.54 GW (11%). Furthermore, Hydroelectric Power Plants, Minihydro, or Microhydro (PLTA/M/MH) produced 6.41 GW (9%) and Diesel Power Plants (PLTD) produced 4.99 GW (7%). Finally, Solar Power Plants (PLTS) only produced 0.152 GW (0.2%) and other renewable energy power plants produced 2.07 GW (3%). It is clear that there is a very wide gap between the current realization of PLTS capacity and the target that must be achieved in the National Energy General Plan (RUEN) of 6.5 GW by 2025. Of course, to catch up on this gap, in the next three years, an additional PLTS capacity of more than 2 GW is needed each year.
Based on this, the agenda of this visit is intended to collect data, information and problems that are developing in companies engaged in Renewable Energy, especially in the development of technology and innovation of Solar Power Generation Systems (PLTS). Solar Power Generation is considered superior and competitive, even the International Energy Agency (IEA) calls solar energy the king of electricity because it records the highest annual growth compared to other renewable energies.
"We hope that this visit to SEI will be the right agenda to provide output or input for us in formulating the Policy in the Development of Solar Power Generation Technology," said the group leader, Agung Wijono in his speech. In addition to discussions and questions and answers, the group from the Directorate of Research, Technology and Innovation Policy Formulation of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) was invited to tour the Solar Farm Area located in the company's rooftop area. Specifically in this meeting agenda, the Director of PT Surya Energi Indotama for the 2012-2016 leadership period, Agus Iswanto had the opportunity to attend and accompany the entire series of events.**
