AL Kharsaah, 800 MWp Solar Power Plant Used in the 2022 Qatar World Cup

Al Kharsaah integrates 2 million high-efficiency LONGi Hi-MO series bifacial modules mounted on a single-axis tracker. This panel is also equipped with Photovoltaic cells on both sides that allow it to capture direct sunlight on one side and capture the rays reflected on the ground by the other side so that electricity can be produced optimally.
Qatar inaugurated Al Kharsaah on October 18, 2022. Al Kharsaah is able to provide electricity needs of up to 10% of Qatar's energy supply, including when the 2022 World Cup takes place.
The Minister of Energy and President of Qatar Energy, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said that Al Kharsaah is one of the largest solar power plants in the Middle East. Its existence can be a source of pride for the Qatari people who are starting to commit to using non-fossil energy.
Finally, Patrick Pouyanne as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Total Energies said that this giant project contributes to Qatar's sustainability roadmap. Floating Solar Power Plant Research: BRIN, SEI, and Gani Arta Care About Utilization of Environmentally Friendly Energy Resources
Indonesia is a country rich in resources, one of which is energy resources. Starting from petroleum, geothermal, waves, wind, sun, and others. The maximum and environmentally friendly utilization of energy resources will produce benefits for the community and balance for nature. This can be realized when the community understands environmental-based management with the help of science and technology.
In order to realize the maximum utilization of energy resources using the latest technology, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI), and Gani Arta Dwitunggal agreed to collaborate on Research on the Application of Floating Solar Power Generation Systems (PLTS) on the Surface of Water. The research, which began in July 2022, took place in the PUSPIPTEK BRIN Serpong Area, precisely in the area around the Bahrul Ulum Mosque Lake.

In this joint project, BRIN through the Energy and Manufacturing Research Organization acts as a technical implementer of research, development, assessment, and application of research based on Articles 10 and 11 of BRIN Regulation No. 7 of 2022. Meanwhile, SEI and Gani Arta Dwitunggal are companies that support the research component needs of the BRIN Research Team. One of them, SEI provides 16 Solar Module Panels along with rails, and Gani Arta Dwitunggal provides a floating system for placing solar power modules.
This research has a big goal to utilize solar energy which has great potential in Indonesia. The increasing development in land areas into settlements or industries, the utilization of water areas with the Floating PLTS system can be a solution for utilizing new renewable energy. The performance analysis of this research is about energy balance, a study of the characteristics of photovoltaic modules which include efficiency, physical conditions of temperature and visual conditions, characteristics of water conditions that will later be covered by photovoltaic modules, physical conditions of floaters (color, strength, and durability), and ambient temperature.
It is hoped that this research will be a joint project that produces a discovery of science and technology that can be implemented for the utilization of maximum and environmentally friendly energy resources. In addition, all processes of this research can be an experience for all parties to continue energy conservation in the same field in the future.

Rooftop Solar Power Plant Development in Household and Industrial Sectors Still Needs to be Developed
The use of Rooftop Solar Power Plants (PLTS) is currently familiar to the public regarding its usefulness in providing electricity savings. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources explained that the potential for Rooftop PLTS that can still be developed in Indonesia reaches 32.5 gigawatts (GW). The household sector takes the most potential, namely 19.8 GW, followed by the business sector 5.9 GW, the industrial sector 1.9 GW, and the government sector 0.3 GW.
Director of Various Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Andriah Feby Misna said that the use of roofs as a place for PLTS is a solution for the construction of PLTS which usually takes up quite a large area of land. With the existence of Rooftop PLTS so far, Andriah hopes that the cost of procuring PLTS land can be reduced, in line with the government program for the implementation of Rooftop PLTS which is targeted to reach 3.61 GW by 2025.
On the other hand, in the industrial sector, the use of Rooftop PLTS will increase the competitiveness of industry in Indonesia. Moreover, the European Union plans to implement a carbon limit adjustment mechanism that will impact Indonesia's exports to the European Union.
In a separate meeting, Director of INDEF (Institute for Development of Economic and Finance) Beryl Martawadaya said that for renewable energy, the government must look at it comprehensively, one of which is from the perspective of the economic impact on Indonesia.
As of April 2022, registered Rooftop Solar Power users throughout Indonesia still reached 5,547 customers with a capacity of 0.06 GW, dominated by the household sector. Bandung – Sophisticated, man! That word describes the farming process in Buaruan Sehat Alami Ekonomis (SAE) P2L Riyadhul Jannah which is located in Demarekesh Housing, Derwati, Rancasari District, Bandung City.

"The advantage is the efficiency of power usage, which we have been using PLN electricity, we can save without using PLN power. Economical in power usage," he said.
However, with the area of urban farming in the mosque location, according to him, there must be 5 solar cells installed to meet its electricity needs.
"Producing 250 watts, ideally the capacity of all of these is 5 panels, because this is just a prototype in terms of implementing this technology, it can be appropriate, we are only using it with a limited scope, after the application can be tested, if this is successful we will cooperate with PT Len to increase its power, now one is only for watering within a radius of 20 meters, while we have 200 meters left and right," he explained.
Indra Budi Utomo, one of PT Len's mentors for this urban farming location, said that the source of electricity used for automatic watering comes from solar energy.
"The solar panels here are a hybrid system, all controlled through a solar power inverter, entering the inverter and conditioned to enter the battery bank, now from the battery bank there is a 220 volt output. This is used to drive the pump, there are two pumps from the reservoir pond to the tower and from the tower to the booster pump to distribute water," said Indra.
Indra said, the electricity source generated from solar cells is more economical compared to using PLN electricity.
"This is more economical than using PLN cables, this can be applied anywhere for its users. This can be an example, we utilize the regency pool and use this green energy technology," he said.

Indra also said, there is no need to worry if the weather is cloudy because there is a battery bank so there is a source of electricity stored.
"If it's not hot, for example like this we have a battery bank safety factor of 1.2 KW, where the pump itself has a capacity of 250 watts, while for watering a maximum of one hour, meaning that from the battery itself it can last for 2-3 days to run for one hour per day, for example today it's cloudy but the battery was charged yesterday, this is no problem," he explained.
The application of technology at the urban farming location was appreciated by the Mayor of Bandung Oded M Danial.
"That's what I'm very proud of, because it was born and realized from the idea of Bandung City residents who are technology literate and carried out directly in their respective areas," said Oded.
Oded asked other Nandung City residents to apply the use of technology at their urban farming locations.
"I hope this can be replicated in other areas, so that Bandung can become a city, even though Bandung is a metropolitan city but its urban farming affairs are cool," he concluded.
